Recently, while trying to lift a set of discs, the hitch was unable to lift completely off the ground (doesn't matter whether the selector lever is in draft or position.) However, when the selector lever is in the DRAFT position, if I push down on the selector lever, the 3 pt hitch lifts the discs completely. Release the downward pressure and the discs drop.

Is the 'repair and replace' procedure for the hydraulic system difficult? I have rebuilt the engine (complete teardown) and given the difficulty of that, think this should be an easy task, but would like to have some reassurance.

What should I look for? What should I ask for at the NH dealer? What pitfalls can I expect? What should I be on the lookout for? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Job complete and it works like a champ. There is no leak down even after 24 hours. I did ask for all of the 'o rings' at the NH dealer, got a new o ring for the lift piston as well. The trickiest part was the adjustment of the linkage for the '0.20 inches' needed for the draft and position settings. I borrowed the tool from the NH dealer and returned it good as new.

The real secret for this whole process is to use an overhead hoist and have a helper. My 12 year old daughter did a great job! Got it back together in less than 2 hours. The other key is lowering the piston portion first (keeping it about an inch lower than back) and aligning the tube and plunger.

It sounds as if your cam follower pin is worn and/or your draft/position control rod is out of adjustment. Take off the top cover, replace the cam follower pin, and then make the adjustments to the control rods. You will need a .02" gauge to make the adjustment or a very accurate ruler. Follow the procedure in the manual for the adjustment and measurement of the unloading valve. I think you adjust the draft control first, and the adjust for the position control. That took care of my problem on my '66 3000. Great tractors! Good luck.
