Got a 641 with an odd seat, It has a shock[auto type] and a spring with several adjustment settings. the whole seat floats on hinges. anyone seen one? who made it? and what color was it suppose to be? it looks to be made for fords and vintage about the same year as tractor?

Big John,

Sure sounds like you are describing a Knoedler seat. They were standard equipement on a lot of Minnie Mo's of the early 50's. They were factory installed on Gleaner combines of the 70's and 80's and I've got a New Holland 1114 windrower with one factory installed. Factory installed they would be whatever color the factory asked for, black in the Gleaners and N.H. windrowers, red on the old M-M's. Hope this helps.

Jim

I think you are refering to a seat made by the Monroe Shock Absorber Co. They made a bunch of them. As below go to the N board there has been lots of discussion and pictures on this.

Go over to the N-Series board and search the archives for seats. Ed Gooding has posted pics and manuals of several different models there.

You'll find all the info you could want.

not sure w/o a picture; but are you familiar with the Rest-O-Ride seat?

Two large rubber bumpers, a threaded rod to adjust tension, etc. etc all located on the back of the seat.

They were painted black.

?

Is this what you are refering to?

No Tom , he's more than likely referring to the Monroe seat that Ford used for a spell . I would think the way they stuck up in the back that many back injuries happened( especially a big guy ). They were very bulky & ugly compared to the Rest-O-Ride seat .
