I have a 67 ford 2000 with a three point hitch. It is the only tractor I have ever owned so I am not very familiar with how the equipment should work. The three point hitch has a lot of play in it and when I use my bushhog it moves from left to right behind the tractor when I am pulling it. Everytime I lift a piece of equipment (bushhog box blade etc.) off the ground it will shift from left to right. Is this normal. I have two chains that attach to each side of the hitches that allow them to move left and right.(which I have broken several times and had to buy new links. I also have 2 metal bars that came with the bushhog but I dont know where they go on the tractor. Will these stabalize the bushhog behind the tractor. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

The answer to your question is "yes". The two bars, or often one really is enough, will stabilize the bush hog. Hook one end of the stabilizer bar to the outside of the bush hog pin where your lift arm hooks, and hook the other end to the stud for that purpose under your axle(s). Just clip with linch pin. You may have to raise the bush hog so it will move slightly and allow the holes to line up. If you don't have a stud under your axle, those are available from most any supply house or dealer.

Using one stabilizer bar is an invitation to bend that one bar. The strength of flat steel is in extension, not compression. Using two bars puts one in compression while the opposite one in extension does the work.

Scott, if you find your tractor does not have the stabilizer stud brackets I have a set that I put on my 900 which have not been used. I bought them and put them on not knowing the geometry is diferent on a row crop vs most x00/x000 series.

Let me know if you need them.

I also have a Ford Dexta 2000, manufactured in 1964. My bushhog also sways more than I would like with just the chains. I did not know that there were stabilizer bars for it and will now try to get some. Thanks
