I am getting an obnoxious squeak from the 2 foot long brake actuating shaft when I step on the right brake. No problems on the left side. Can this be lubricated, is there some other fix for the squeak, or should the shaft be replaced? My manual doesn't even mention this part.

As you are sitting on the seat, are you talking about the right side pedal. If so, that pedal swivils on an 18" shaft that goes thru the housing to the other side where the clutch pedal swivels on it. I suspicion that the squeak is not from the shaft, which is lubricated with hydraulic oil, but from a dry bushing which acts as the swivel on that brake pedal. On that right side brake pedal, there is a grease fitting on the back of it that lubricates that bushing. If grease to that bushing doesn't stop the squeak, then I would suspicion that the bushing itself is worn out which means you take off that brake pedal and replace the brass bushing. Better take care of it, because if you damage the shaft, that's a $91 part at NH. My $.02
