looking at a 9600 ,can anyone tell me the good and bad of these? the motor seems a little noisey but a freind said all 401 are and not to worry, are the dual power tranny ~s good ? tia

Just bought one that was claimed to be a 1985 mdl. Is that possible? Seems to be a brute. Does anyone have any idea what it's worth? also I was told anwhere from 125 135 to 165 horsepower. any one know? thanks

No. The 9600 ended production in 1976. It's worth around $6500-8500 +/- and came from the factory at 135 hp. It's a great old tractor.

you are loking at on helluva good tractor. we have a 8000 (same tractor w/o turbo) the 401 is a great motor (7900 hrs and a waterpump and injector pump are the only thing we have replaced on it) the dual power trany is a good trany much better than IH's torqe amplifier. I have never seen one that had any problems (and if it could be broke, we'd be the first to break it but we haven't) plus you have the planatary rear end. The only real problem is with our 8000 is the power adjust rims coming loose but we put nylon lock nuts on it and used loc-tite on the bolts and we haven't had a problem since.
