I have a 4000 3cyl dsl with 8 spd trans. It has a ford front end loader installed. The problem is the loader will not lift over a couple of hundred pounds or so. Any help or suggestions would be appreicated.

Dan, Having installed a loader on my 660 a few years back, the hydraulic shop which helped me sold me a pressure gauge to adjust the spool valve relief at 2000lbs. Go buy one with the same thread as one of your feeder hoses to the lift. You can probably plumb it in line if you wish. See what the pressure is and that might help figure things out.
Good luck!

Dan; It has to be your hyd pump!!either the oil is low or it is worn and needs to be re-built.You could have a plugged hose somewhere??, not likely tho. You can test the out-put of the pump.,that's where I would start.

It COULD be the pump, but it doesn't HAVE to be the pump. Collapsed suction tube, plugged suction filter, low oil level, faulty relief valve, faulty lift cylinder packing or worn out pump drive are among the possibilities.
