look on the transmission housing usually just behind the starter for two numbers.. one will be the serial number... is this a 4 cyl or 3 cyl 4000..

Sounds like maybe it's a junkyard transmission that was removed from a '62 Ford 841.

Can either of you gentlemen tell me where to add oil on my 4000. I have looked high and low to find a fill spout but obviously not high or low enough. I find two possibilities in the front of the engine but they look like a power steering unit and something else. Help! Not much of a mechanic.

jeezis man i hope theres oil in it?! On the right side of the motor, under the power steering, theres a crankcase vent on the block. Its a breather cap on top of a (2 or 3 inch) diameter pipe. Pull off the breather and add the oil there. On mine the old owner attached a 8 inch radiator hose because of the blow by. Mine is a 62 4000 gas engine. Good luck! If ya need a pic?, let me know.
