Came across a N for sale. Bad 12v conversion, poor sheet metal and signs of various abuse. What I really want from it is the sherman tranny and other parts. I noticed that there was no ignition switch or even a place on the dash for one. The owner is completely ignorant of the machine and is no help. Looks like what used to be the headlamp switch might be the ignition switch. Any advice? Could the switch be elsewhere? (Hate cobled 12v conversions)

Yup it used to have one on the column but now the headlamp switch seems to be the ignition. It goes to a ceramic resistor. Kinda wild.

Believe it or not but there were 4 different places that they put the switches over the years, mid 1939-early 1940 had it on the RH side of the dash to the right of the oil pressure guage, early 1940's had it on the bottom RH side of the dash below the lower hood mounting bolt, mid 1940's had it at the same height but on the LH side, late 1940-mid 1947 had it on the LH side of the upper steering column, the light switch went in a small hole below and to the right of the ammeter gauge.
