I am thinking about buying a 2000 ford diesel tractor,1968 to 1970 year model(not sure),for $4000. It has 1400 hours on it,it runs good and is in good shape but it is leaking gear oil from around the pto gear shift. I was just wandering if anyone out there knows if this is a good price or not.

A good price if it's an 8 speed. If not, I'd take a pass. My $.02

Hi Phil. I am not an authority on tractor prices but in my quest to find a 2 or 3000 series I have looked at a lot of tractors in really poor shape for a lot more $ than you mentioned. I finally decided to pay a couple of thousand dollars more than my target price (which was $4000 to $5000) and got a newer model tractor in excellent shape. $4000 sounds like an excellent price for the Ford 2000. I bought my first Ford one year ago. A 1975 2000 with power steering, 3 forward gears with hi/lo (I am not sure if this is called an 8 spped or not). The tractor does not have live PTO, and it had 4000 hours on it. also included was a snow plow and cab. I paid $3500 and am very happy. It is an excellent tractor. Good luck in your search.
