Hi,

I'm a first time poster to this board and have just bought a 3600 Ford diesel. I've ordered the operator's manual but it has not yet come in.

What I'd like to know is what sort of motor oil and the other fluids I should buy for the tractor?

Apologies if this sounds like a stupid question but this is my first diesel motor and I have no experience with them.

Thanks.

.....Alan.

for a diesel buy a cf-4, cg-4 or the newer ci-4... these oils are designed for diesels and can be run in a gas engine as well.. they are design with a special additive to nutralize the acid in the oil from the sulpher in the diesel(suphiric acid). they are specially design to retain the built up of soot in the oil and keep it suspended and off the engine. They are also designed for extended oil changes up to 10,000 miles on a truck or more so you can safely run them with confidence in your tractor diesel over a year or longer depending on hours.

for instance you can buy "delo 400 15w-40" at walmart in the gallon container for about $6.17 a gallon... this oil meets all known tests and specifications for all diesels world wide...usa ci-4, europe "hd aeca e4", the new global "dhd1" japans "jaso". delvac and rotella t diesel oils are also excellent oils and availible at most walmarts. look for the ch-4 or new ci-4 ratings.. and you will do fine..

the 3600 uses hydraulic oil in the trans and rearend.. be sure to use the oil that has the tractor additives (rust preventatives and seal conditioners)as virgin hydraulic oil does not.. sam's sells a 5 gallon container of tractor approved hydraulic oil (meets ford, massey, john deere, etc specs) for about $ 17. for five gallons... I've seen the dealer get as much as $30 bucks for 5 gallons... 3600 is a good choice of tractors.. Bill
