Yep...I have the cartridge type...My goal is to restore this gal to her original condition...I think I'll go ahead and get the adpator to make routine maintenance easy as I plan to make her earn her keep but keep the canister available to swap when folks come by to admire what a great job I have (will) done (do) on the old gal...I'm sure I'll have additional question soon as I start this project...Thanks to all...

Any New Holland dealer can get it for you. I bought my last one at the local auto parts store that carries Wix filters. Can't remember the part number of the filter, sorry.

Thanks for the lead...I sent an inquiry on the Wix Website and got the follwing reply:

Wix part number 51004 should be used in your application. We have cataloging going back to 1943 to meet our customers' needs for older applications.

Thank you for your inquiry.

I have a '57 861, the filtres are available at your NH dealer. There are two types of filtres for this tractor, the element (what I have) and the 'spin on' canister type. The spin on type requires an adapter. If there is a hex bolt head sticking out the centre of the filtre, then you have the elment type. Apperently the spin on adapter is only about $20.

The Element type filtre is messy to change.
