I just purchased a nice old Ford today. I always wanted one but could never find one that I could afford, until today (imagine hearing someone screaming YAHOO!). I don't know where the model/serial numbers are yet as I have never owned one and I don't have it home yet to examine closely. Anyway, the previous owner says its a 1958 Workmaster that his father bought new. It reminds me of a Golden Jubilee. It has a 4cyl ohv gas engine with distributor on the right. No power steering, has 3pt hitch and pto. It is grey over blue. All the workmaster pictures on the website here show grey over red. Apparently there are a bunch of different "Workmaster" models. Can anyone please give me some pointers to find the numbers and correctly identify? Thanks.

Thank you, folks! That vintage Ford tractor resource page is awesome. It appears my tractor might have the wrong paint scheme. Thanks for the great pics, I am hooked.

I just went through the same exercise and, using info from the
Vintage Ford Tractor Resource
website plus suggestions from contributors here, identified mine as a 1958 series 601, model 631. That site's a real wealth of info, especially the serial numbers link, so you should be able to ID it pretty easily. If you'd like, take a look at a little website I've set up with some small jpeg files on my tractor: Link

BTW, on paint, mine's a faded orange-red over grey over a darker red .. and there was even some Ford blue in places, too!

Good luck & have fun ..

Click the link below to find a site that show and tells where to find the serial number and model number. Scroll down that page further for more info regarding those numbers.

This is Dennis Orgill's 671 Workmaster that is as correct as can be except for the front emblem. Also the seat is more deluxe than my 850. I don't know if it's a dealer add-on or an owner modification.

And this is a 641 Workmaster that Tyler Neff photographed last weekend at a show in PA. I lifted it off his 9N website.

All Workmasters (also known as 601 Series) were painted red with gray grille, fenders and wheels. In about '62 Ford switched to blue for tractors. Many dealers painted their old trade-ins the new color to make them look newer. Also, some owners preferred the new colors and so they painted them blue just because.

The 641 in the picture looks mighty nice. The one problem I find though is the color - - It looks too dark red for me -- I think it was painted with 8N paint. The 601/801 according to tisco was more orange - what do you all think????

Marty, the Ford red was produced from 48-57.

In 1958 Ford introduced models with a facelift and changed the color to a red with an orange tone to it.

Depending on the year of the tractor the colors would be slightly different but the grey remains the same.

Not mine....I just took the pic (of the 671). Tyler Neff took the pic of the 641. I wish mine were as nice as either of them.

Here's a good place to start. Has every thing your looking for. Also if your colors don't match what ya find at this sight your tractor has probably been painted. AB

don't use it from this site or the originality guide from Peterson and Beemer. Both sourse give the wrong NAPA paint color code for the grey. The CORRECT is 99L 3732 Ford Tractor - DIck Hamilton
