I recently looked at a ford 851 that runs great, looks good and has a loader with down pressure. There is a whine in reverse that may be normal for that tractor or may be expensive. If it sets for a long time the clutch sticks and it has to be towed to get it to break free. The tires are filled but one has a break at the bead and needs to be replaced. I would like to put a small backhoe on this machine and do not know if it could handle it. This would be a small farm/home use machine. The seller claims to have paid 6500 for it two years ago but has best offer on it. I live in MA where everything cost more than it should so that may be. I think it may be worth 5000 to me. Any Input from any of you guys about this would be appreciated.

Seems quite high on price.I just sold a 850 Ford with loader, the tractor was completly rebiult, all new tires, paint gauges etc, etc,I sold it for $5400.It looked and ran as good as new, with an automotive type paint job.The original owner said he did use a back hoe on it and it worked good. Good luck,
P.S. I,d say the 851 is probbly worth$3500 TOPS.

My 861 had reverse noise, it was reverse idler, which is built in to the housing-remove 7-8inch round inspection plate on right side of trans. -reverser is built into this housing /inspection plate I got one from Wengers for $275. This is caused by low oil level or no oil. BURT

That price seems a bit high. my 851 is quiet in all gears. my 2 cents worth would be for you to take your time and wait for the right one for the right price. I bought mine in Mass for 3500 no loader but it had 2600 hrs and it was all orignal.

I have a '55 850 with a loader and backhoe on it and both work very well. The backhoe counter balances the loader so I don't have the difficult steering problem folks here mention having with the loader by itself. My unit was purchased in the early '60s from a MA township DPW complete. The tractor has a step through type cage that supports the loader and backhoe; neither is easily removable. This particular setup is one tough working machine for its size and age. Good Luck, Don
