I have a 1947 ford 9N and when the hyd. is raised
all the way up with a load such as a bushog i hear a knocking sound comeing from the pump area.
the fluid level is good. So whats my problem?

It is not uncommon for the lift on the N tractors to make this noise. It is caused by worn pump parts but is nothing to worry about. They can go on for many years making this noise.

When the lift reaches it's maximum the control valve is pulled out of the bushing automatically and if there is any leakage in the system the pump will continue to pump to maintain the height of the lift as it is set. This causes a partial stroke of the pump and this is when the loose motion is most likely to be heard.

Check to see if your sway chains might be tight causing the pump to strain, there should be 7 links of chain between the clevis' and the bracket around the pto should have the hole for the clevis above center.
