I have a '71 3000 with an annoying little leak around the pto shaft. It's not a bad leak but big enough to make a mess on the garage floor. Can someone tell me if there is an o'ring or seal that I should replace and how big of a job it is to do it? Very much appreciated!

It's not a big job to change the seal, drain the fluid, remove 4 bolts, and remove the complete assembly. The seal can be changed w/out removing the shaft, but doing so will allow you to inspect the bearing and snap rings while you're there. If you remove the shaft, first shift the pto into gear to keep the coupling in place inside the housing. HTH!

yes, there is a rear seal that has to be replaced,,, and you have to drain most the fluid to do it.. inspect the pto shaft for a groove,, it it has one, you can replace the standard seal with a "double seal" that can be obtained from most of the better bearing and seal companies... the double seal will not mate in the same area on the pto shaft as the old seal making the tractor good for another 30 or 50 years...
