Early in the spring I replaced the pto seal. The so called tractor parts store that I bought the seal from also suggested I use a basic R&O hydraulic/gear oil to refill the rear end.

Unfortunately my brakes which now worked perfectly now would "squank" and grab. Recognizing the lubricant change may be the cause, I drained the rear and replaced with an oil that clearly cross referenced to the rear end oil suggested in my manual. Also, according to the label on the continers, it stated it was suitable for wet brakes applications.

My brakes improved but are still unsatisfactory and are not getting any better. Is there anything I can do short of replacing the brakes. Is there something else that may be going on that may be coincidence (Both brakes - same time)?

help appreciated

New Holland sells an anti-chatter additive that sometimes helps. If the adjusting rods are nearly out of threads, You may want to go ahead with brake replacement. Not all that bad a job if you are set up for it.

RickB, I Found anti-chatter additive. Bought a gallon. Any suggestion as how much should be added? Guy at the counter said pour it all in but he did not sound very confident.

tks
