Looking for advice on draining and re-filling
hydraulic fluids used for the front loader and backhoe. I rebuilt some lift cylinders for the front loader and would like to drain and refill the system with 134. Previous owner used some fluid from TSC and I dont know if it's ok to mix with 134 or not.
Also, any guess on the capacity it holds? Thanks....Joe

I'm guessing that your machine is similar to my '67 3500D TLB. Mine has a model 735 loader and a 753 backhoe. The manual says the loader capacity is 13 gals. and the backhoe is 7 1/2 gals. Trouble with that is, what they mean is the total capacity; cylinders, hoses, etc., not just what drains out the reservior when you pull the plug. I think Bill's right about what kind of oil. I don't mind mixing what's in the loader as long as it's decent quality and the same specs. I pop enough hoses not to want to run New Holland brand 134 in it; that stuff costs twice as much. I do use New Holland in the transmission and rear end; that way when I tear something up in there I can tell the parts guy down at Fairfield Tractor,"Yeah, I do."
And about the level, that 8 to ten inches from the top with all the cylinders retracted. The overflow sprayer on the fill plug will slick you from ankles to hair line.

William, thanks, and yes the NH134 costs 40.00 for 5 gals and the others around 25.00 for 5 gal. Its more than i wanted to deal with, thats for sure.
Regards, Joe

it ok to mix "tractor hydraulic" fluids.. and tsc sell a fine one as well.. as long as the meet the ford mc134 spec.. your ok... sorry on the levels but some loaders have their own resevoirs, other use the tractor.. and i'm not familar with your model.. if its the tractors resevoir, use the dipstick in the rear,, if its the loader,, fill it about 10 to 8 inches from the top.. no more, or when its hot, it will expand and leak out..
