Shifting back and forth forward and and reverse the tractor is pausing longer and longer before it kicks into gear. It takes a higher rev of motor to kick it into gear but I don't like to abruptly let it engage. Is this a sign of bad torque convertor or what??? Fluid level is good> What is the fix here??? Major trans overhaul??? hmmm baron

Does it work better cold? Like you just get on it and it works ok for a few minutes then starts acting up? If so my guess would be transmission pump, a worn pump will pump cold oil better than hot, thinned out oil, or another possibility is that the pump is sucking air, I'd get it checked out soon if you have got low pressure going to the clutch packs it may let them slip, I'm sure a manual would tell you where you could tap in with a gauge to see what kind of psi you have.

thnaks for the reply....I will start it up cold today and see if it initially works better. I don't understand how the pump could be sucking air though.....is it not submerged under fluid? Actually....WHERE is the pump? thanks baron

The pump is around the input put shaft in the bell housing; it's driven by torque converter housing tangs just like a car automatic.

Well I did your test today and for sure the trans shifts bettter when cold..... then gets slow but still does shift. I guess I can live with it unless it gets really really slow. What is involved in the repair or whatever??? Much thanks for your thoughts baron

It would be much like a clutch job if it had one, have to split the engine from trans. housing, much more difficult if you have a front end loader to deal with.
