On a ford 3600 rear axle there is a seal inside the rear axle housing and a seal next to the brake backing plate with the bearing assembly between the two seals. How does the bearing get lubricated from the diffrential?

Bern, do you know if that cone shaped spacer under the bearing is some sort of crush washer? I tightened the lock nut on the new axle bearing but did not take up all the slack. I am still waiting for local dealer to order manual for this tractor.

That spacer needs to be there, do not remove it. The reason the assembly is still loose is because you have not yet installed the assembly back into the tractor. Once both axles are installed, the inside ends of each axle actually butt up together. It is from this point that you check and adjust free play.

It doesn't. It is supposed to be packed with grease at the time of assembly. You need to remember that this bearing does not turn very fast.
