Working on a 4000 Ford, which the "three point" doesn't want to go up and down, (has set outside for ten years)and is very hard to screw up or down. Looks like old grease to me, am I in for any surprises, never had one apart before, looks like a simple deal to fix????

Ref 3pt; Things always get more complicated, it is the "knuckle" that is froze up, and will not turn in the "up/down" position, it has the two pins in it.After heat, 12 ton press, and a lot of swearing, could not get them to move! Took it to Ford shop, they couldn't do it either. Left it at a machine shop, the foreman said, "I will get thoes damn pins out----we will see??? next week?? Hope they don't ruin my arms, they are spendie! A simple job that turn out not to be so easy.

If it's the leveler arm you're talking about, you can take the arm off, put it in a vise and heat it with a torch. This should loosen it up enough for a pipe wrench to unscrew it. Once you get it apart you can clean up the threads and put in some new grease. Don't try to brute-force the crank - you can mess it up that way (guess how I know).
