Hello;
I have an early 63 4100 with a 6 volt system.
Have replaced the better part of the starting system...a number of times...
Partly because, when I buy an allegedly 6 volt starter, I am sent a 12 volt starter with assurances it is a 6 volt..3 times now. Grrr.
Now I see that a bunch of you have had the sense to convert to 12 volt. Which means that at least some of you still have an old 6 volt starter in good shape kicking around in a box somewhere.
Want to trade for a 12 volt starter? I'd even break down and buy it.
Or , could you tell me where I can get a real 6 volt starter?
At this point I'm starting the old thing with jumpers from my truck. It is real steep here , with the sea 700' below and that isn't always convienent.
Sure appreciate the help you folks give! Pete

Hi,
How do know that the starter that they are selling you is 6vt or 12vt??If you have a 6vt starter a good 6vt battery ,heavy 6vt cables (not the light 12vt cables) along with a good tuned engine it will start!!
People that change to 12vt nornally don't change the starter.
I am a New Holland dealer,our parts dept have 6vt starters in stock. We ship parts daily.

How do you know that you are getting a 12vt starter??Most people that change to a 12vt battery never change the starter!!If your battery is in good cond your connections are good your cables are heavy 6vt (not the thin 12vt)and the tune up like was posted your tractor should start fine.
As for a 6vt starter I am a dealer and we carry them in stock 1-800-553-6731.If you have a credit card we ship parts daily!!Ask for parts.

Sometimes on your style tractor when the starter turns over slow or seems like the battery is weak you should set the point gap and then the timing, because if the timing is off it will fight against the combustion when turning the engine over instead of firing the plugs at the correct time.
