I was luck enough to receive as a Christmas gift from my wife a 1958 Ford 821-D (Ser. No. 33272). I is in very good shape, I drove it home with no problems. My question is: the shaft that couples the engine to the hydraulic pump for the loader has a lot of longitudinal play and can come out of the spline? at the crankshaft end. The pump is mounted as close to the engine as possible on its bracket. Is the problem that the shaft is worn? Should I just move the pump closer? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks to all for the advice. It was a great gift, but after all the horses, trailers, carriages, hay, etc. that I've bought her, she thought I was due! I'm going to pull the pump off and see what I see.

looks like a 702 or 703. good loader. do you know how many gallons of hydraulic fluid goes into it?

good work. model number should be on the tags upper left corner or near it.

allen, i have a ford800 with factory loader. the splines on my pump shaft evetually wore out.longitudinal play? i don't know, however it's an easy fix. and it's not expensive. i'd start there. now answer my question: what kind of oil goes in the case that houses the 3point hitch? lee johnson

dont seem right. it should stay tight and and the splines lock in to avoid any movement or slippage and rounding over then your out of business. dont see a problem moving it in closer as long as the moving parts arent rubbing on the loader frame or bottom grille unit. try it see if it works but a loose shaft aint no good and she needs to be tight.
