i have what i think is a 1952 model 601 i'm not sure.is there any way to tell for sure?6,7,8,00 series all look alike to me.any info would help!!!!

I don't know if you had a typo, but I can guarantee you do not have a '52 series 601, since that series didn't start til '58 (actually late '57, for the '58 model year.)

Now on to try to be helpful: Locate the starter. Where it bolts into the housing, there is a "near-flat" area where the model and s/n are stamped (not cast) into the housing. You will probably have to wire-brush off some grime and maybe some paint to find these numbers.

Anywho: if you find something like: 641 6705 -you have found the model and series (641) and the serial number (6705) and you can move forward from there [ To your next question, no doubt. ]
