Got the starter replaced on the 72 3cyl Ford 2000 and the tractor still would not start ended up jumping around the neutral saftey switch on the hi/lo range and it started up but after 3 or 4 starts the starter stuck on again. Does anyone have any ideas as to why it would do this. Thanks in advance

If the battery get weak or it turns over too long at a time the points get burned together in the solenoid causing it to keep turning, replace the solenoid and do not run the battery down too low.

I have a 1968 2000 and like you said..if the battery gets low it will ruin the starter. But why ? I lost 2 starters because of a low battery over the years but I never understood why . Even with the tractor ignition turned off and the tractor in the barn it seemed the solenoid would try to energize the solenoid to turn turn the starter. Since the battery was low it would ruin the starter.

Just ramblin,
Dennis
