I've looked at this site for S/N info and believe I've correctly identified my tractor. I'd just like to sanity check myself because I've been told one thing by the previous owner and the s/n tells me differently. The s/n reads 840, 101909. This tells me it's an 840 produced in 1956. I was told it's an 841, seems to me the numbers don't lie, it's an 840. Comments. Also, does this model use a positive ground?

Thanks,
Bob

Well Bob, I hoped someone with more knowledge would answer but here goes. If your tractor is a gas burner it would have been 6 Volt Positive GRD from the factory. Diesels were 12 Volt NEG GRD. Now it is possible that someone has substituted the housing during a repair. That would account for the 840/841 thing. Look in the photo gallery on this site and you will see the difference. I have a 1958 841- Diesel posted there. I'm sure you can find a picture of an 840 or 800 series.
