This is my first tractor,1963 2000, and the back right brake seems to be dragging. I know where the slot for the adjustment is, but I am not sure if you click the adjustment to the right or left. I jacked up the back and tried to adjust it, but could not tell that I was clicking anything. What's the trick? Thanks, for responses.

It's usually no big poblem to get the drums off these tractors. When they grabor hang, it is usually just a small amount of grease on the shoes. Clean the shoes and put a little oil dri in the drum IF this is your only problem. Since you also have a noise in the drum, I would suspect from past experience that you have a broken spring. These brakes are not too bad about wearing out.DO NOT be tempted into having the drums turned. They don't turn like a car drum, ie, with a smooth finish. Aturned drum will quite often rip the linings off the shoe.

Brad,

If it sounds like the brake is dragging, adjustment is probably not the problem. You should only have to tighten the brakes, not loosen them. If the previous owner replaced or tightened the brakes recently, they might squeak for a while, but eventually the noise will go away.

Your shoes may be worn down to metal. If the noise continues, pull the drums and check them out.
