I have a 640 and my nephew has a 601, What is the differents between them? They look the same except for the color. All my other toys are green, But the 640 is KING when it comes to shredding the 3ac around my house, gets under the trees real nice. thanks,,

Ford made several models within several series. A 640 is a specific model in the 600 series. A 601 is another series. Your nephew's 601 is probably a model 641 (assuming it's equipped the same as your 640). The 600 series was built from '55 to '57. The 601 series from '58 to '62. Other than color there were a couple of small changes and a small boost in hp I believe. Here's a site to help explain more. If you click on the Serial number button, you will see how to find and decipher the model and serial numbers.

The 601 is the series and the 640 is the model. So yours is a 601 model 640 and your nephews is a 601 and if you look on the transmission top, right behind the starter both of you should find your model and serial numbers stamped in unless battery acid ate it up.
