My 960 came with a wide front end when I bought it. I am told that it is not a stock coversion but maybe a farmer invention. I appreciate the genius that it takes to do such a thing, but I need to know if there was damage done during this conversion. I am looking at putting an original pedistal back on to make it narrow again. Part of the cause for this is the turning radius is not so great, I'm sure due to the wide setup she has. If you have any ideas please share them. Also, any up close photos of your narrow front end would be appreciated, just email them to me. Thanks! Bill

I am trying to convert my narrow pedestal 900 to a wide front end. I would be interested swapping parts.

I will send some pictures, give me a couple of days to get them.

There should not be any damage as long as they did not weld anything in place. I have a pedestal that bolts onto the round flange on the bottom of the front steering gear box. It takes 4 bolts to intall. Let me know if you need the pedestal. I can email a picture.

I sent you some pics of mine, but they may not be specific enough. Let me know and I'll snap what ever you need.

This is an easy conversion compared to a lot of tractor work. The brace attached to the side rails along the engine will come off as well as the rest of the axle and the narrow front should bolt right up.
The axle you have now looks as if it may be Ford but the bracing is 'farmed' on. Maybe that axle is off of a 860? I don't know, but someone will tell us.
The wide front on my 961 has a huge cast iron yoke right under the radiator portion that houses the axle pin with no bracing back to the engine. Good luck and be careful, it's heavy.

It does not look to me that any damage was done but hard to tell. I have done just as Jim.Ut said and converted my 960 the other way. You will basically replace the whole pedestal that is the red part. There are 4 horizontal 1" bolts to be removed and repalced. Let me know if you need a narrow pedestal. I have my old one in my barn.

There have been people posting here from time to time wanting to do the opposite....switch from narrow to wide. Maybe you could hook up with someone like that and swap parts.

I think I see wheel weights on your wide front. I don't think you can used those when you go narrow. That's why the front weight box was offered for the row crop tractors. Weight boxes seem to be hard to come by now.

I have some shop manual supplements that deal with narrow fronts. I'll look through them and scan whatever looks useful to you. Email me in a few days if you don't hear from me. I sometimes need reminding and life is a bit busy nowadays.
