I am thinking more about going to the narrow front end to try to improve my turning radius on my 960. What I am wondering is if I will be able to use the front weights. There was some concern expressed last time this subject came up that I could not use them. I should keep them to offset the impliment on the back its about 1800 lbs or so. {FYI..I got several requests last time, but I am not inclined to sell my wide front, should I decide to change back.} Any ideas? IF you think it will work and you know of a narrow pedistal, remove the "nospam." and send me an email. thx, Bill

If you're talking about the front wheel weights that bolt to the inside of the wheels, I quote from the Ford Tractor Shop Manual supplement "1957 Running Production Changes":

The front weight box and segments used on 1955 and 1956 tricycle tractor models can be mounted on Row Crop Tractors with single or dual front wheel options. However, the weight box is not recommended for use on tractors equipped with the wide adjustable front axle option. The inside mounted wheel weight segments used on the front wheels of Series 600 and 800 tractors, can be mounted on the front wheels of Row Crop Tractors equipped with the wide adjustable front axle. Refer to Section 3, Part 3 of Chapter IV in the Tractor Shop Manual."

I went to Section 3, Part 3 of Chapter IV in my shop manual and it seems to reiterate that the inside mounted front wheel weights are only intended for 600 and 800 series tractors, but may also be used on a 700/900 if it has a wide front. The weight box is what is spec'd for adding weight to the front of a tricycle Row Crop tractor. From what I hear, they are not easy to find.

Once before (not too long ago) when someone posted about converting, a reply was posted by someone who had a narrow pedestal available. I don't know if that was a reply to one of your posts or someone else. If you sift back through the archives you may find it. I can't remember who it was.
