Recently replaced engine in my log skidder with what I believe to be a farm tractor engine. casting number310609, former engine was an industrial model with the dynamic balancer, anyway the present engine has what I believe is excessive vibration between say 800-1000 rpm.
Ive heard these engines were "shakers" but my old one wasnt. Any input would be appreciated as I dont want to stick my nose where it doesnt belong, as far as tearing things apart that dont need it. By the way the engine runs fine good oil pressure etc. Its just that my teeth are rattling....
Thanks all

Hey,
I have a 144d and it was rebuilt just before I bought the tractor.I feel that it has a lot more vibration than I would expect as well. But the man I bought it from has been foolin' around with these tractors for 30 years and has a great reputation and he took it in on trade without hesitation.I'm gonna run mine until it drops. It's probably good for another 42 years.I'm sure deisel technology has improved in that amount of time and an older designed engine will not sound, run or feel the same as a newer one.

I have a 172 gas motor that I put on a generator and it vibrates pretty bad to but other that it runs like a top.
