I purchased a PTO belt pulley unit that fits a 8 or 9n tractor . I want to make an adaptor so it fits on my 1964 2000. I noticed the female splines in the belt pulley unit are smaller than the tractors male splines. Any idea where I can find cheaply the splined ends . I have a machine shop so welding and machining is not a problem . I just dont want to have to create the female to male adaptor I need from scratch if possible.

Thanks for your input.

ED

I feel sure the adapter kit is still availble from a co. called Tisco. If not they have the pto reducer.part no. R420.The bolt pattern is the same ,so with 2 flanges and a piece of pipe you could mfg your own.

in the v a l u b i l t catalog they list a kit to mount the ford belt pulley on ford N tractors that have had the 1 3/8 pto shaft installed,it says it consists of an 1 3/8 to 1 1/8 adapter and a spacer to move the pulley housing out to make room for the adapters extra length. i am not sure if the bolt pattern around the pto is the same on the later tractors but it might be worth looking into

Ed, all you would need is one of those pto extension that goes from 1 3/8 to 1 1/8. I know I have 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 and a 1 3/8 to 1 3/8 but I don't know if I have a reducing one. Or you may find an old standarizer and get the peices you need to make you an adaptor. Good Luck John

I also now have a belt pulley that was made to fit the smaller PTO shaft. Unfortunately both of my tractors have the larger shaft. There probably is an adapter available to reduce the shaft size. But since the belt pulley attachment is set up to bolt to the bearing retainer assembly bolts that hold in the PTO shaft, it would also be necessary to build a mounting adapter to adjust for the added length of the PTO shaft caused by the adapter. And I am guessing that the mount needs to be quite strong and accurately located, since the intended mounting surface is the large, solid and heavy casting of the rear end housing. Unless it was done right, I would worry about it tearing up the PTO shaft and/or the belt pulley attachment.

I don't really need a belt pulley--I don't have anything that would run a flat belt, at least at this point. I bought the pulley attachment because I recognized what it was at an estate sale and could get it for a reasonable price. It was a disappointment that it would not fit either of my tractors. Maybe it will be good trading stock. Or if I decided I really needed to use it, I could probably install a smaller PTO shaft that will fit in my 641D. I think they are available used, from the 640 or similar series. Or maybe it is a good excuse to BUY ANOTHER TRACTOR!!!!! I obviously need more than two...

Eddy, if you really need to use the early belt pulley on a later tractor, you are probably stuck with fabricating a mount and using a PTO adapter. There probably was a belt pulley made to fit your tractor. Maybe it would be more practical to find the proper attachment that will bolt up without modifications. Good luck!
