I have a 1964 Ford 4000 SOS I am restoring. I have 2 lights, one comes on when the key is turned on and the other dosen't. I am assuming that this one is for the SOS Trans. and PTO. There is a wire coming from the Trans. but is isn't plug to anything. Could someone tell me how to hook this up and doe's anyone have a wiring diagram or where I could find one?

The light on the left is the trans oil pressure light. There is a wire coming out of the trans case just ahead of the hydraulic dipstick that feeds this light. The safety starter switch wire is the one coming out of the cover by the selector cables. Both lights should come on when the key is turned on.

The wire from the tran is the neutral/park safety switch. It is supposed to be in series with the push button starter switch. It completes the circuit when the tractor is in neutral or park and is open when the tractor is in any other gear. You can check this switch with an ohmmeter. It should have little to no resistance from the wire to the chassis when the tractor is in park and should read as an open circuit (very high resistance) when the tractor is in gear.

Hi Tim,

My brother has an 871 with Select-o-Speed. My question is about the "tran" light and how it is suppossed to work:

Is it supposed to come on red when you turn on the ignition key before you hit the starter, and then when the tractor starts up and the transmission pressure builds up (past 4 psi or whatever), then the light goes off..?? Is that how it's supposed to work...?

Thanks,

Randy in Michigan
