I'm looking at a 1973 Ford 5000 with mfd and a yellow Ford loader. It has 5200 hours on it and is pretty clean for its age. What should I look out for? How many hours before normal troubles with a 5000 of this vintage?

Somebody else was asking about a similarly equipped 5000 recently. As far as I know, the 5000 was not available with MFD, at least in North America. It was suggested that the other tractor may have an aftermarket axle. I would be interested in knowing what make of axle it is. I am not even sure the later 5600 were offered with MFD, though I have seen early 7700's with side drive ZF axles. I can dig through the NH parts system for you , if needed. Check shift levers for wear, PTO brake operation, Steering bellcrank pivot and draglink sloppiness, coolant conditioner level. 5K+ hours; may be getting ready for primary PTO drive hub and shaft from flywheel to PTO clutch, this is a double split.

Rick, the very late hundred series were available with MFWD, beginning with the "Blue Power Specials"; seems to me like it was in late 1980.

Its in Quebec, and looks to have planetaries of some type. So I guess it might be a County. But it could also be a Roadless or a Selene.

They do things different in Quebec compared to the rest of North America. Dealers in Quebec deal directly with the European sales offices it seems. You can find all types of European tractors sold there new, that you can not find anywhere else this side of the pond. There is even a Renault importer and 7 or so dealers in Quebec.

In 1979 or 80 the Fords became available with factory mfd (the offset ZF like you said)for North America. Email me and I'll give the url for the pic of the tractor, and see what you think.
