I have recently found a Ford 3400 industral series tractor. On a whim, I asked the guy if he wanted to sell it. To make a long story short, he is asking $1000.00 for it. He said it needs a new clutch. I haven't heard it run, but will before I buy! It has a decent looking front end loader on the front. Its a deisel engine. Has the protective cage over the operator. He has placed a bag over the steering wheel for keeping the water out of the transmission, and claims that was what happened to the transmission to begin with, water ran down the steering colume. It also needs the rear tires replaced and could use a paint job. I guess my question is, if this thing at least runs, what is it approx. worth??? I can't find anything on these on the internet. Thanks Al

It's worth 1000 in parts. I have a 1970 3400 gas I paid 5000 for about 3 yrs ago. It had surface rust but was running good. A clutch is not just a tinkering job. You have to split the tractor. The 3400 is an industrial 3000 series tractor with a heavier front end for loader work. If you intend to do loader work you might want power steering. Hope your seller doesn't read this discussion board! Reading this board, it seems you would not want a select-o-speed trans.

Al, from what I have read on this board it is basically an automatic transmission on a farm tractor. You just select a speed and go, hence, select-O-speed. I have also deducted from what I have read that it is wise to avoid them if possible. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

Hi Al,

It sounds to me like you have stumbled on to a bargain. I would think it would be worth a $1000 if you are willing to invest more money in it and like to tinker. Rick H. Ga.
