prospective seller has called and told me that the 53Golden Jub #70060 has a weld on the casing of the trans. It could be cleaned up and painted over but now it is running great and has been for prior owner.

anyone gots thoughts on why this weld might be there ?

my guess is someone broke the flange on the trans housing when splitting the tractor or putting it back together.... My NAA has a crack repair in this area also... that was my deduction... like you, the repair doesn't seem to have any effect in the performance and actually I didn't find it, until my rebuild.... and by the way, whoever welded it did a great and evidently knew how to weld on cast

Hi John, My Jub has a spot near the bottom of the right vertical side right under the brake index on the differential housing. I have had the Jub 23+ years and did not notice this repair until I stripped it for restoration. Looks like it could have been a factory repair, not like weld. If it is weld it is finished nearly like the casting. It is a small spot, maybe 1 1/2" dia. I think the factory repaired minor casting flaws. Transmission crack? Would ask where, then we could possibly determine the whys. I've heard of tractors breaking in two at various places when abused with a FEL and backhoe. Ask for pictures.
Good luck,
ray
