Have a recently purchased 3000 diesel that runs about 5 minutes and dies. Have to let it set a few days and then will do the same thing. Have removed the plastic in-tank filter and replaced fuel cartridges. Any advice or help out there?

Hi Jim,

I don’t know a lot about diesel engines but I know a little. Diesels run on high cylinder compression and a squirt of atomized fuel from the fuel pump and injectors. There are usually no electrical ignition or ignition components except for maybe a glow coil on some engines.

Fuel, compression and timing are the vital elements. It sounds to me like your engine is starving for fuel. Keep checking the fuel system. See if you have a good flow of fuel from the fuel line from the tank to the fuel filter and the from the fuel filter to the fuel pump. If not, determine why not.

Once you have checked this you will have to bleed the fuel system to get it to start. Check the archives on this forum and you find some good instructions on bleeding the fuel system or purchase the correct shop manual (FO-?? for the 2000, 3000 & 4000). HTH. Rick H. Ga.

Forgot to mention air. Make sure the air filter is clean and not stopped up or restricted.
