I just changed my 601 from 6volt to 12volt
and it starts and runs fine.
I used a 1 wire AC Delco alternator...
PROBLEM = After useing it for about 4 hours its draining my batteries charge.
alternator is new.apparently not energizing.
Question = Do i need to loop another wire
on alternator?if so where/where to? thanks.

The instructions I've seen for one-wire conversions indicate that you may need to briefly touch a wire from the battery to one of the terminals on the side of the alternator in order to get it to start charging the first time. After that, the alternator should start up by itself (still may need to run it up in rpms to get it to start).

On the other hand, are you sure this is a true one-wire alternator? Some folks describe all of the Delco's as "one-wire" alternators because they don't have an external regulator. If it's a standard Delco, there is more wiring needed but it's not hard to do.
