rear main cap- between cap and block is
opening half on cap, half on block that butts oilpan when oilpan is insalled. This opening appears to run up between cap and block, maybe all the way over cap to opening on otherside of
cap. not familure w/ this engine. when i had oilpan off i noticed a (assuming cotton fiber) string hanging from both sides of cap at this opening about 1/2" to 3/4" (which was between block and oilpan gasket). not sure what it was
i pulled it out and both strings are about 10-12" long. is this the rear main seal or a cap seal??
it was bunched up in this opening. does a rope seal, rubber seal, or just this string (as a seal} need to be there as it may not be a location that needs anything.
