I was bush hogging last night with my 960 (2 stage clutch)and I disengaged the PTO to travel back to the house. When I got close to the house I wanted to mow a little bit more but the PTO lever couldn't be moved into position to engage the mower. No matter how many times I tried, I couldn't get the PTO engaged. The clutch pedel seems normal, but the lever just won't go. What could be the problem?????

If you haven't done so, unhook the mower from the PTO, to make sure it isn't in a bind of some sort with the mower. That may not help, but you are going to have to do that anyway, so it's something to try.

When you say it won't go in, does it grind when you try to engage it or will the lever just not move at all?

I had similar trouble with my 860 last year. turned out the pto shaft had twisted when I hit a rock. the pin didnt shear like its supposed to for whatever reason. this year a similar difficulty ended up being that the clutch was out of adjustment. did you hit anything when you were mowing or run over a mound of dirt that may have bogged down the tractor but not stalled it or shear the pin? if not try clutch adjustment.
good luck
Ray

Yes, I did run over a mound of dirt that bogged the tractor down a little. I unhooked the mower's PTO shaft and can easily spin the tractor's PTO shaft. If the tractor's PTO shaft had twisted, would I still be able to spin it easily?
