I have a 4400 and my steering is leaking at the base where it bolts to the transmission casing.
Is it the gasket that went bad or is it something
else that is causing it to blow out?
Thanks

I think it is leaking at the base, but i'll go home and douple check it to make sure. What other oil would it be,would the transmission oil go up that far?

I can't actually tell from your description wether you have a reverseomatic 4400 or just a manual transmission.
However I am pretty sure the housing below the steering box on either should be dry.
It is possible a rear crankshaft seal or a transmission seal of some sort is leaking showing signs of oil at the base of your steering box which does not normally have a gasket.
So you can see how crucial it is to know what oil is leaking.
Engine oil generally black, steering oil generally red but so can trans oil be reddish too.
Check it out.
Good luck Richard

Look again very carefully, is the leak originating from the steering box side cover, steering shaft or a tiny pin at the rear of the box a little bit above the mounting flange (you can only see the round end of that pin)
If it is steering oil those are common place's for a leak to originate.
