I contacted Sams store and the sales person said they had a 1525 CCA Battery for $100.00. My question is this too much battery for my Ford 3000 diesel? All help appreciated.

Sounds to me like one of Exide's over rated B.S. batteries. Think about it, where did they put the plates to make it that strong?? Did they quote you CA instead of CCA??? And another thing, even if you have 1525 in that little battery, how long do you have it???? Sometimes cranking amps is overrated, and most people overlook reserve. The 4DLT might only be 850-900 CCA (I don't remember), but it will have that much crank for at least 1 1/2 minutes longer than any battery smaller than it in phyisical size. The only battery than can beat it is the 4D-XHD and the 8D-XHD. Two six volts hooked in series will give a lot of reserve too. My advice is to stay away from the overrated grocery store junkers, and buy the battery that was meant to be in the tractor, and preferably an Interstate. And one more thing, car batteries are not meant for commercial use like in tractors because the plates are not reinforced in a car battery to take the jarring and hammering like a commercial battery is.

your Sams is higher than mine.. if its a 4dlt size.. then and you need cold weather starting or you dont start it everday.. it will be worth every penny.. it can sit for 3 months and still start the tractor.. it can run the glowstat for 30 seconds and still crank it serveral times till it starts...

if you have a gas tractor, its an overkill unless of course you let it sit a long time between starts...

some people are using regular car batteries with fair results as well but then they dont do anything when its cold. and they replace the battery every two to three years...

good luck.. bill
