As I look through my Ford Service Manual, I see model designations such as "Dexta", "Super Dexta", "Major", and "Super Major". What in the world is this all about? These sound like terms that should apply to the old Fordson but the manual is for my 1970 4000SU, and the name "Fordson" isn't mentioned at all. Can someone enlighten me?

I believe those names refer to the Ford tractors from England. A Ford Dexta is a 50s diesel, not even remotely associated with the old Fordson.

When the new Thousand series tractors came out in 1965 and the Fordson name was dropped, those labels continued to be used in other countries but not the US. An issue of the N-Newsletter has a photo of a "Super Dexta 3000" in Denmark. The sheet metal looks like a '65-'68 US Thousand series. It's as confusing to me as it is to you. The original '57-'61 Fordson Dexta 3 cylinder and the '62-'64 Super Dexta were extremely popular in Europe, Australia and who knows where else. I think Ford kept the names on the new Thousand series to capitalize on that popularity.
