Can anyone tell me if the New Holland dealers should be able to supply the front mounting plate to install a 730 loader on a Ford 3000? Also need the drive shaft hardware for the front pump. Will I have to remove the front bolster to bolt drive shaft hub to the front crankshaft pulley?

I sure appreciate you guys that know these things being willing to share information with us less experienced. Thanks!

Bill, I have mounted a number of loaders on tractors in my life and most every one of them didn't have the front mounting bracket. People tend to leave them bolted to the tractor when the loader is removed. If you can locate the previous tractor, I bet the plate will still be on it. If not, it is very easy to fabricate a new plate. I mount the loader on the tractor, then when I have the loader in the correct position I want....and blocked up really well for safety.....I crawl under the front of the tractor and use a flat piece of cardboard to make a pattern of the bracket. I mark where the bolt holes are located on the cardboard pattern, then transfer the pattern onto 3/8" or 1/2" Sheet metal. I cut it out with the cutting torch. A bit of grinding to clean up and a new front bracket is born. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the advice Roland. Fortunately I did get the front mounting bracket from the previous tractor. I believe it to be a factory orginal, with extra metal around the bolt holes for long life. I will have to modify the top part of the bracket. Now if I can figure out the part about the front pump drive shaft, I think I will be on my way. Thanks again, Bill

I wouldn't bet you could buy the bracket new. Drive couplers and hardware should be no problem. Thought the loader you bought had the correct stuff to mount to your SU? You won't have to remove the bolster, but plan on removing the cowl and radiator. Put a new fan belt on it, check the water pump and hoses. If it has the P/S pump and attached reservoir, change the filter and fluid. If it is a gasser, install new points, cap and rotor. Doing all these jobs will be MUCH more difficult after mounting your new loader.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for responding and offering all the good advice. I will be sure to do all you mentioned.

My loader came off a 640. Seemed like a little much for the tractor. I knew the front mount wasn't the same (as my 4000SU) and, if I don't get a lead on an original front mounting plate, I will start modification to this one. I am sure I can make it work. Would buy factory made if I could find one.

I just happened to find a picture of the loader and tractor while searching for information. It is actually on this site, back when it was antiquetractors.com but still come up. The owner forgot that a friend with a new digital camera had told him he would put the picture on the internet for him. It is a good enough picture to give you an idea that the loader is in great shape.

Bill, nice looking loader. It will match up much better to your SU than it did to the 640.
