I found a pretty nice 3930 w nh loader for $10k.

I posted earlier on the 4600 w/loader for $7.

Neither has a reverser. The 3930 & loader is real clean but the hour meter is non functional. It has a hard time going into gear. It's either a clutch adjustment or the clutch needs replacing. The trans main shaft just wont quite stop spinning with the clutch is depressed all the way. Also when you shut the engine down, it continues to spin a little bit. Is this normal with diesels or is this a sign of hi hours?

Anyone have an idea on what a cluth job would cost on a 3930?

It's between these two machines (both diesel).

I like the 4600 for size and it appears to be a solid machine. I suspect it would do real good in the winter.

I like the 3930 because it's newer and from what I can see is priced well except for that clutch issue.

Is there any negatives to these two machines? Which one would all you guys prefer?

I need to make a decision soon.

Thanks for all your input.

If the 3930 is 4 wheel drive, check the king pins, hubs, and pivot bushings over. Clutch problem could be pilot bearing or springs. Check after market for disc and pressure plate. Should be able to get Borg and Beck for half the cost. They made the clutches for Ford anyway. Ford parts could near 1000, depending on what is needed. 3930 has a larger clutch than 4600, so that should be a plus. Run on is probably just shut off cable adjustment. Tach cables tend to fail IF they are not routed properly around the hyd pump. They are basically the same tractor except the 3930 is 45 hp, the 4600 is 52 hp.

No it's not 4wd. The engine doesn't run on, it just spins on. when you pull the shut off, the enging shuts down but continues to spin a litte bit from the reciprocating mass, clickity clack, etc. It just doesn't impress me as it being a "tight engine". As I guess it wouldn't be, since it probably has 5000 hours or so on it. (just a guess) I did lock up the brakes and nailed it and it did a good job of trying to go, so I guess there's still alot of life left in the engine.

I'm just on the fence about the two machines. I like the larger 4600 size for traction in winter. I just can't see why a larger 4600 has a smaller clutch than the 3930, I would have thought the opposite.

Does anyone know the weight on the 3930?

They are close to the same weight. The early 3930
and the 4630 used the same 201 3 cyl same as the
4600 did. I would take the 3930 even with the
clutch issue.

I just bought it w/ a new 6' house rotary cutter for 10k. There is about 1 1/4 " of clutch adjustment left on the rod. I hope that is all it is. Machine seems real nice w/ no leaks and loader is in excel. shape. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for your experience.

noone mentioned the hydrostatic steering on the 3930. That is a BIG plus.
