I am in need of a power steering cylinder for a 1964 Ford 4000 Row Crop Tractor. (Wide Front) The original one went south and we haven't been able to find a replacement. The Ford dealer stocks these for the utility model 4000, and also the 65 and newer ones, but they haven't had these in stock for years and if they located one it would be extremely expensive. We can't even get the parts to rebuild our cylinder, so I'm looking for a good used or NOS cylinder. It is located on the right side (when your sitting on the tractor). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

on the market there are two types of cyl sizes availible and they are expensive,, ie about $200 a piece... IRC so look and see what size you have and then try to match it up with the aftermarket cyl... assuming you have the left and right cyl... if the row crop is diff.. then look to a custom hyd cyl shop.. they will take a generic cyl close as possible and weld the ends on it you need. but it could be about $400 going that route... keep looking and you will find something that will work...

good luck.. bill

The row crop cylinder is differant. It has the valve attached to the end.

The cylinder itself is not rebuildable. I is welded together. The only replacable seals are the rod seals. I have cut two apart to see about rebulding it. The piston inside uses cast iron rings and usually wears out the cylinder tube. The rod also wears out due to supportin the weight of the cylinder. The whole cylinder would have to be remanufatured.

Do you need more than the seals for inside your cylinder because they are still available?
