I've got a 1975 Ford 4000 with approx. 4500 hrs. I have an Allied loader which works great but VERY slowly. The tractor hydraulics do not leak, and put out lots of pressure, but work very slowly. Any suggestions (other then cylinder size etc.). Does the 4000 normally have less hydraulic flow than other similar sized tractors ( our small JD has the same loader and works much faster).

Cheers,
Alex

The 4000 Ford puts out a whopping 5 point something GPM out of that hydraulic pump. Barely fast enough to lift the rear hitch up and down at a decent speed. Best fix would be to install a front mount or PTO driven pump. You could also check to be sure that your flow control is screwed all the way in for max flow (don't get your hopes up on that one!)

Bern, do you think that sounds like he's having a problem with air/pump priming?

Not really. It's just that 4000 hydraulics are VERY slow.

Thanks gents! That's kinda what I suspected because all else works well. I've already adjusted the flow control and the bucket is still slow.

Cheers,
Alex
