I have a mid 60's 4000 that the lift acts as if it is in Draft control all of the time. Is there anything to know prior to removing the top plate?, i.e. linkage or something to be accessed via the side etc. that would hinder the top from coming off?

It may be that the cam follower pin has worn off where it rubs the cam for position control.

When you lift the cover off you must lift the rear of the housing first because Ford had one of their "better ideas" about the time this tractor was built and changed a perfectly designed lift so that the front now has a protrusion on the control valve that the older ones didn't have and apparently didn't need as they worked just fine and the lift cover came off straight up. Go figure!!!????
