We face one big problem, i have a tractor of 40 HP, 5 year old, Having Mechanical Steering Gear Box. 2 years back i assembled torque Generator (open centre type-Char Lynn) with one extra pump. I reworked the system and put the Torque Generator in between the Mechanical steering worm wheel shaft. Starting first few months , the results was satisfactorly, but after few( 3-4 months) months the Free play between the mechanical steering gear box increases (which is the original part of the old tractor). And day by day it increases tremindeously. Now i remove the TG from the tractor and fitted new Mechanical Steering box.

Please suggest me what happen with the Mechanical Steering Box, Is the mechanicla steering gear box not compatible with the Torque generator Output torque.

When i see the wear part of the mechanocal steering gear box, (it was worm with ball type steering box)the emerry powder type fine particle on the surface of the worm wheel.

Please send me the total solution and the literature available for that. can we use the new mechanical steering gear box (high strength) with The TG.

I think I understand what happened. You put a Char-Lynn type of power steering booster on a tractor that did not have power steering. In a short time, your original steering box in front of the tractor wore out very fast. After replacing the wore out part, you would like to know why, and if you can use the power steering with the new parts.

Right?

I don't know.

I have this type of power steering on my Olliver Super 77 tractor, my uncle put it on decades ago, and it seems to work fine. No extra wear, the front gear has little wear.

Normally you should not have any problems.

Just so you know, we are just a bunch of regular people here at ytmag. We do not have literature or 'total solutions' to send to you. All we can do is offer to help a bit, as much as we know.

Could you tell us what kind of tractor this is on? While it is probably not something I am familiar with, maybe someone else has experience with it.

Good luck.

Ya You r right.
I have a tractor 45 hp, with Hitch application(cultivation and other field operation), i also use it for Haulage purpose.
So if i can check the percetage usage in field is about 30 % of total application and remaining as Haulage and on road running application.

I fitted this Torque generator (Booster) in betwen steering wheel and the steering gear shaft.
So for that i cut the Steering shaft and assembled in line with the shaft.

So i thnk u understand what i can do for the improvement in the steering efforts.

Can u please discuss this Wear(steering gear) out problem with others, and reply back, if u r able to do this, i m very thankfull to you. what type of Meechanical steering gear you are using, what exactly it is? Can you please share with me, or told me the tractro desription so that i can try in my country for that.

I really dont no how to take more feedback by using this site/ or any other site.

You know, after putting this TG on my tractor others also (12 no.) pt TG on their tractor, The same problem face by every farmer(i.e. steering wear problem),

You know waht i thnk about this problem; I thnk the steering gear put in the tractor can able to take only manual torque (aplly by farmer), but in the case of TG (Booster) once the farmer aplly very small amount of Torque, the TG multiply the torque as per specification and transfer this torque to Mechanical steering gear, which not able to handle this much high torque.
Can you please comment, weither i am right or not.

If you discuss with any char lynn dealer or mechanical steering gear manufacturer please consult and send me the reply too.

I can take a picture of my system & email it to you, if that is alright. I'm sure it is about the same as yours, a round Shar-Lynn motor - cut out a section of steering shaft, and put this in. There is a pump that is run from the fan belt to supply power to it.

Perhaps you can ask the manufaturer of your tractor what the problem is? I really couldn't tell from over here. :) The steering gears should not be wearing out that fast.
