I have a 3 cylinder diesel 3000. The front cylinder exhaust is blowing oil out. Could this possibly be a valve problem? I havent noticed any change in the way the tractor runs, and the oil started leaking almost suddenly. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Ford 2000 diesel with the same problem. I first thought it was fuel oil, and presumed that the injectors were not atomizing the fuel enough for combustion. I bought new injectors - no help. I now think that the problem is engine oil leaking past the valves, although the Ford dealer also thinks it could be bad oil rings. Like you, the tractor runs OK, abeit very messy with the oil seeping from the exhaust pipes and out the back. Unless someone else has specific ideas, I guess I will have to rebuild the engine to find out what the problem is and stop the mess.

its the valve guides...and yes ..its very common and only does it when you turn it off..

the valve and springs are actually in sunken holes or ports in the head that fill up with oil.. so when the guides wear a little.. the oil will seep through.. especially when you shut the engine down... and these ports are "full" of oil.. over time, it just seeps down.. and out the exhaust..

its normal.. not worth messing with and will not use a "lot" of oil,, but will use a little over time... most ford diesel engines will do this when they get about 4000 hours or more...but otherwise run very very well...
