This seems like a stupid quesion, but I've searched the archives, the owner's manuaul, and the shop manual. Where do you place the jack to lift the front end of a 640. Seems like I read somewhere to use the oilpan, but that doesn't seem right. One reference in the shop manual says to use the front of the transmission to support the front end. What about that flat spot just in front of the oil pan?

I guess it would depend on what repairs you intend to make. That spot would allow front axle type repairs. If that bracket needs to be removed, I would use the bell-housing area. I shy away from using the oil pan. Use jack stands and be safety conscience. These things are heavy!
